Huawei Malaysia and MCMC commence Digital Leadership Excellence Programme

Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia), in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), has inaugurated the ‘Digital Leadership Excellence Programme: Navigating the Tech Frontier’. This initiative is a talent development programme aimed at empowering leaders across industries and the public sector with essential skills and knowledge. The goal is to enable them to spearhead digital transformation within their organisations.

The eight-month Digital Leadership Excellence Programme is made possible with the full support and collaboration of MCMC. It offers a comprehensive blended learning approach, including online learning, workshops, participation in Huawei conferences, practical attachments, a capstone project at Huawei Malaysia, along with a seven-day industry visit to China.

The establishment of this programme followed a call by Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, during his closing address at the Malaysia ICT Summit hosted by Huawei last September. The Prime Minister encouraged Huawei to craft this programme to ensure that those in positions of authority, whether in government, academia, or the private sector, stay up-to-date and informed about the latest technologies and innovations, preventing them from being left behind in this digital age.

“Leaders of organisations, ministries, and academia need to understand the various domains of technology to drive its adoption and leverage its transformative capabilities to create better outcomes, regardless of sector or industry. This programme, formulated by Huawei Malaysia and MCMC, is here to assist in making that possible. What this programme hopes to achieve is to equip the current generation of leaders of organisations with a deeper understanding of emerging technologies, to gain additional technological skills, and to be able to successfully apply this knowledge and skillset to improve operational efficiencies,” said Mr Simon Sun, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Malaysia, during the launch event, which was also attended by the Chairman of MCMC, Tan Sri Mohamad Salim bin Fateh Din.

“As this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, the first intake for the programme has been set for 50 participants to commemorate the occasion,” he added.

Slated to run for three years, the Digital Leadership Excellence Programme will engage a total of 300 participants in leadership positions across government, industry and academia.

“I believe this programme is very beneficial especially for the telco industry because previously our telco industry would work in silos. Through this programme, there is an opportunity to work together, share expertise, and experience new developments in technologies such as Big Data, AI, and 5G. I am certain we will gain great insights from this programme,” shared Mr Lee Keng Ket, Head of Operational Support System (OSS), Network Planning of TIME dotCom Berhad, who is participating in the programme.

“We are very excited about this partnership that Huawei Malaysia has forged with MCMC today to bring us this highly customised programme covering so many modules and topics. What’s better is having this offered to the first 50 cohorts across the industry and seeing diverse participation from different industries and professionals,” said another participant, Mr Firdaus Fadzil, Head of Regulatory of EDOTCO Group Sdn Bhd.

In addition to being fully sponsored by Huawei Malaysia and curated together with MCMC, the ‘Digital Leadership Excellence Programme: Navigating the Tech Frontier’ initiative recognises the time constraints often faced by individuals in leadership roles, offering a flexible blended learning environment that allows for 75 per cent online learning and 25 per cent physical.

The programme will cover eight key domains of content across 32 modules: Leadership, 5G technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Big Data, Green Technology, and Cybersecurity. Participants will engage in case studies, presentations, group discussions, and experiential learning to stay abreast of recent innovations and industry trends.

The MoU for the collaboration between MCMC and Huawei Malaysia to implement the programme was signed at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, Spain last month.
