Brother International Malaysia, a leading innovative print and imaging, labelling, and sewing solutions provider, has donated RM20,000 to the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM). The donation will directly support breast screenings for 40 underprivileged women and help cover the operating costs of NCSM’s Children’s Home of Hope, including bills and utilities.
Managing Director of Brother International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Tsutomu Takaki emphasised Brother Malaysia’s long-term partnership with NCSM since 2011, with its annual participation in Relay for Life, an aspiring event dedicated to raising awareness and funds to fight cancer. The brand’s commitment to sponsoring the cost of NCSM’s breast screening operations aligns with its value in supporting initiatives promoting well-being and empowering individuals within their communities.
“We believe that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, and we are proud to play a role in making a positive difference in these women’s lives. We are confident that this donation will raise awareness about the importance of early detection and contribute significantly to the fight against breast cancer in Malaysia,” said Tsutomu Takaki.
Breast cancer remains a significant concern in Malaysia, with one in 19 women facing the risk of developing the disease and nearly 40% of new cases diagnosed in advanced stages, highlighting the critical need for early detection.
“We are deeply grateful for Brother Malaysia’s generous support in relieving the financial burden of those who can’t afford to get their screenings. Early detection is crucial in the fight against breast cancer, and by providing free mammograms to underprivileged women, we are empowering them to take control of their health and improving their chances of successful treatment outcomes,” said Dr Murallitharan Munisamy, Managing Director of NCSM.
“Not only that, but another community we must not overlook is the children. Unlike adults, they can’t fend for themselves. Thanks to Brother Malaysia’s contribution, we can keep providing the best care to children staying in our Children’s Home of Hope while undergoing their treatment,” Dr Murallitharan added.
NCSM’s Children’s Home of Hope provides short-term, free-of-charge accommodations for underprivileged cancer patients and their caregivers while undergoing treatment at their hospital. It offers a comfortable environment that promotes recovery and uninterrupted care while relieving their travel expenses.
To date, NCSM’s Children’s Home of Hope has helped countless underprivileged families, providing 15,432 bed nights for numerous young cancer patients since 1997.
