UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd. (UMWT) wrapped up 2023 maintaining its top position as the overall non-national automaker, showcasing continued market leadership for the third year in a row. As the first month of 2024 unfolded, the company achieved a total of 6,276 units, for both Toyota and Lexus.

Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor, expressed his satisfaction with 2023’s performance, stating, “Our success is a reflection of our dedication to delivering high-quality vehicles and an unparalleled ownership journey. We appreciate the positive reception from the market and our customers, acknowledging our diverse model range and forward-thinking approaches. As we continue to set new benchmarks, our focus remains on providing meaningful and innovative mobility.”

In 2023, Toyota continued its leadership as the top non-national automaker in 2023, selling its highest-ever total sales of 108,107 units (Toyota and Lexus), securing a substantial 32% overall non-national passenger vehicle market share (Toyota only). In the SUV segment, the brand sold 22,533 units with a notable 19.6% non-national market share.

The brand’s leadership extended to the pickup segment, where Toyota emerged as the market leader with 27,447 registered units in 2023, translating to a 47.2% non-national market share. In the panel van segment, Toyota’s dominance was evident with 3,424 registrations in a market of 3,424, securing a commendable 100% non-national market share.

Additionally, the month marked the conclusion of the Toyota Eco Youth Programme (TEY) 2023/2024, culminating in a ceremony at the Everly Hotel, Putrajaya. Organised by UMWT with the Ministry of Education (MOE), the event showcased the impact of environmental education on the younger generation. Representing 15 schools nationwide, 60 students, and 15 teacher advisors, projects addressed specific environmental concerns. Since its 2001 inception, TEY engaged 506 schools, benefiting 2,690 students and leaving a lasting legacy. Notably, SMK Seri Ampang in Kedah secured the TEY Championship, earning RM30,000 for their outstanding 3R project (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). The winning team, comprising Nur Farhana Azwani Ishak, Khalisa Iman Khairizal, Nur Farah Syafiqah Mohd Yusri, and Noor Fatehah Majid, received the mock cheque with their supervisor-chaperone teacher, Nur Asmaa Abdul Hashim, during the prize-giving ceremony.

The company also expanded its footprint with the inauguration of a new 3S outlet in Nibong Tebal, Penang in the first week of February. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing customer service and accessibility in the region, aligning with UMWT’s commitment to providing an extensive and accessible network for its valued customers.

“Embarking on the new year, our dedication resonates in the joy and mobility we offer. Our commitment extends beyond vehicles to crafting experiences that bring happiness and superior services to all our valued customers. We emphasise our commitment to ensuring daily life offers accessibility, creating happiness and mobility for all.” Datuk Ravindran K. added.

In tandem with these achievements, UMWT is poised to unveil its next groundbreaking initiative in February, in its Beyond Zero event. The event marks Toyota’s resolute commitment to the journey towards carbon neutrality by 2050. During this event, UMWT will showcase its multi-pathway mobility solutions catering to diverse needs and usages, aligning with Malaysia’s vision for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

For the month of February, Toyota also continued to expand consumer access to car ownership this auspicious Year of the Dragon through the “Flow of Fortunes” promotion, offering customers up to a 100% loan for selected models with cash rebates and free accessories worth up to RM4,500 available across a diverse range Toyota models.
