Supped Up Cars, Electric Vehicles, 4X4s and Automotive Lifestyle at the IAM & MIME 2023

A selection of almost 300 supped up cars, easily surpassing a total of more than 50,000 brake horse power (bhp), is the highlight of the International Modified (IAM) Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia International Motor Expo (MIME) 2023 which opened to the public today until 29 October 2023 at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur.

Regarded as ASEAN’s largest car tuning and lifestyle show series, the three-day show showcases the very best of Malaysia’s modified cars and shares the stage with an expansive display of new cars, electric vehicles and 4X4’s in what has been curated to become a premier automotive lifestyle weekend for all auto enthusiasts and visitors. The show is endorsed by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii),

For modified car enthusiasts, IAM will be putting up nearly 100 individual awards presented to the best displayed vehicles in nine main individual categories which includes: Distinctive Awards; Style Awards; Car Audio Awards; Performance Awards; Disctinctive Build Awards; Type Awards; Manufacturer Awards; Car Club Awards; and Region Awards. Also to look out for are awards for Best Interior; Wildest Wide Body; Killer Kolour; Best JDM Modified; Best Modified Retro; Best Contemporary Classic; Best Truck; Hottest Engine Bay; Best City Car; Best Compact Car; Best Roadster; and the Best European, Asian, American and Malaysian Modified Car.

Since IAM was introduced in 2001, and first held in Malaysia in 2011, it has always been known as a showdown of epic proportions for modified cars. The show attracts the most outstanding and extreme modifications from Malaysian car enthusiasts. This year’s show includes exhibitors the likes of JWide, Qartel, Vertex, Street Garage, SpeedSyndicate, B.A.R, Bambush, Bon Stylo and Blackmailz.

The show will also feature an IAM Alliance talk at the main stage which will discuss and share about the car modifying culture and trends in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

This year’s regional IAM tour kicked off in Singapore from 21-22 October and after Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this weekend will travel to Jakarta, Indonesia on 2-3 December before the finale is held in Bangkok, Thailand on 9-10 December. The show is also working towards making its debut in the United States in Summer 2024.

Combining forces with MIME, the unique showcase includes for the first time a dedicated Electric Vehicle (EV) Fest dislaying a variety of EVs with an approximate 400km of range on a single charge but with a price range ranging from RM100,000 to RM500,000. Visitors can also look forward to test driving a wide range of EVs, allowing them to experience the benefits of electrified mobility.

This special showcase has been designed to become a one-stop location to see, test and evaluate some of the latest EVs on offer in the market. This is with the objective of getting as many people to drive as many EVs available, exposing them to the many different technologies and features available in the market and at the same time enhance their understanding of EVs.

MIME 2023 also features a special outdoor section aptly named the 4X4 Xchange which showcases 4X4 displays promoting the camping lifestyle, off-roading and the sale and swap of 4X4 of equipment, merchandises. Also an attraction, especially for buyers on the lookout for a new vehicle will be a section themed “Your First Dream Car Selection”.

Among the top exhibitors at the show includes JPM Museo which will have on display a race and eclectic collection of cars and hot rods; a Supercar selection by Utama Motors; a combined showcase by Mazda, Kia and Peugeot; and displays that include a modified Tesla by Exotic Mods.

The show will also conduct a digital polling for the “Peoples’ Choice Car of the Year” enabling visitors to choose their favourite cars.

Another highlight at the show is the unveiling of the DMM Performance Project M 204 new team race car, driver line-up, and introduction of its new team merchandise along with the announcement of its official sponsors and partners for 2023.

DMM Performance is by DMM Sales Sdn. Bhd. (a wholly owned by Daihatsu Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.) and the team will be making its debut in the 2023 Sepang 1,000KM Endurance Race next month. The team completed last year’s race by taking the only Myvi Gen3 to a commendable 10th place from a total of 16 cars competing in the SP2 V Class category.

International Modified (IAM) Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia International Motor Expo (MIME) 2023 also features a wide variety of attractions which includes racing simulators, an RC (remote controlled) exhibit, a TAMIYA showcase, gatherings by numerous car clubs, a display of royal exotic cars, a LFYE music festival (live bands and deejays) and lots of prizes and giveaways for the public. IAM will also see a gathering of its HIN girlfriends (Show queens) and conduct a fashion show during the three-day event.
