New M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm F1.8 PRO and M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F2.8 PRO lenses provide high speed and high performance at extreme wide angles, with weather-proof reliability.
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f1.8 PRO lens is the fastest series production fisheye lens in the world with its f1.8 bright aperture. Targeted at photographers with astronomy, underwater, landscape and professional-imaging interests, this special lens captures distinctive ‘fisheye’ perspectives with the viewing angle of a 16mm* lens.
An extraordinarily high level of sophistication has been applied to its optical design, with emphasis on the absolute minimisation of comatic and chromatic aberrations at large apertures – optical issues especially critical in wide field astro-imaging. Its optics comprises seventeen high-performance lens elements arranged in fifteen groups, to achieve extremely high clarity across the image field up to the periphery of the recorded image. Special lens elements include Olympus’ proprietary Super HR (Super High Refractive) and Super ED (Super Extra-Low Dispersion) glass.
With a remarkable compactness, and light weight of just 315g, the new M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f1.8 PRO arguably represents ILC optical engineering at the very leading edge.
The highly anticipated M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F2.8 PRO is the ultra-wide lens of the standard ‘professional trio’ of fast Zuiko F2.8 zooms with focal lengths that are most demanded by enthusiasts and professional photographers. This trinity includes the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm PRO and the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm PRO lenses already in market. Their combined focal length range from 14-300mm*.
With a fast F2.8 aperture specification, the new M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F2.8 PRO zoom has an extremely wide viewing angle of 14-28mm*. It is aimed at the professional and enthusiast, with reportage, sport, landscape, nature and architecture imaging requirements. Its optical design features the highest performance optical materials that include DSA (Dual Super Aspheric), EDA (Extra-Low Dispersion Aspheric) and three Super ED elements, for superb imaging clarity. Distortion is minimal at all zoom settings. High optical quality at wide apertures facilitates handheld photographic freedom when combined with an Olympus camera body that has 5-Axis Image Stabilisation, such as the professional OM-D E-M1 and the E-M5 Mark II. A light weight of 534g matches the portability of all OM-D system camera bodies.
The M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F2.8 PRO and the M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f1.8 PRO are both environmentally-sealed against dust, water and the freezing cold (to minus ten degrees Celsius) for high operational reliability. Olympus ZERO multicoating (Zuiko Extra-low Reflectance Optical) is applied on all lens surfaces of both lenses to effectively suppress ghosting and flare.
The retail prices and availability of both lenses are to be announced. Check the other range of lenses from the local Olympus site. The World’s Fastest 8mm Fisheye Lens & professional grade 7-14mm ultra-wide angle zoom.
