Garmin Malaysia launches Forerunner 255 & 955 Smartwatches for Sports Fanatics

Garmin Malaysia today launched the Forerunner 255 & 955 series of GPS running smartwatches for running and sports enthusiasts. The Garmin Forerunner 255 comes equipped with an added full triathlon support whilst the new Garmin Forerunner 955 series introduces its first solar charging watch. Now available from a suggested retail pricing of RM 1,730 to RM 2,970, the Garmin Forerunner 255 and 955 series is available for purchase on Shopee, Lazada, AECO e-store and all at authorised retailers.

Forerunner 255 Series

The Forerunner 255S and Forerunner 255S Music are available in 41 mm sized cases while the Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 255 Music are available in 46 mm cases. They use less time charging with up to 14 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and up to 30 hours in GPS mode.

Forerunner 255 series adds the following new features:

  • Morning report: Receive the day’s weather and daily workout suggestion,  information about user’s sleep and HRV status. The report can be customised and users can view the details they prefer.
  • Full triathlon support: Switch up a workout routine with triathlon and multisport activity profiles. During races and brick workouts, easily toggle between sports with a single button press.
  • Race widget: View race prep information – including a race day-specific performance prediction, race day weather and a countdown clock – all in one widget. Once a race is scheduled, daily suggested workouts will adapt based on an athlete’s race plans.
  • HRV status: Track heart rate variability while sleeping to get a better handle on recovery and an overall wellness picture.
  • Garmin Pay™ contactless payments: Breeze through checkout lines by paying for purchases right from the wrist.
  • Multi-band GPS: Garmin’s reliable GPS accuracy just got better.By enabling multi-band, multi-satellite-system tracking on the watch, athletes can receive more accuracy in their run data, even in the most challenging environments.
  • Native running power: When using a Running Dynamics Pod or HRM-Pro™ (sold separately), receive real-time metrics of how much power is being exerted on a run, built into the watch – no app required.

Forerunner 955 Series

Garmin unveiled the Forerunner 955 Solar in conjunction with the Global Running Day. Featuring a Power Glass™ solar charging lens, the Forerunner 955 Solar gives athletes up to 20 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and up to 49 hours in GPS mode. Built with a full-color display that is easy to read and a responsive touchscreen that complements the traditional 5-button design, the Forerunner 955 allows fast access to everyday health features, easier control of maps and more.

New features in the Forerunner 955 series:

  • Solar charging (only in the Forerunner 955 Solar): Power Glass solar charging gives athletes up to 49 hours of battery life in GPS mode.
  • Touchscreen interface: Quickly swipe through maps, stats and more. The traditional 5-button design can be used separately or in conjunction with the touchscreen.
  • Multi-band GPS: Stay on track in the most challenging environments with multi-band, multi-satellite-system tracking.
  • Training readiness: Learn each day how ready the body is to benefit from training by taking into account sleep, recovery time, HRV status and additional metrics.
  • HRV status: Track heart rate variability while sleeping to get a better handle on recovery and an overall wellness picture.

The Forerunner 255 & 955 series include key performance and training tools from Firstbeat Analytics™, VO2 max, training load, performance condition, training effect and more. New indicators such as HRV status, recent exercise history and performance will provide athletes with greater insight into their overall training status. Athletes can track their cycling dynamics on the Forerunner 955 Series such as seated/standing position, power phase and platform center offset when using a compatible Garmin power meter. In the water, the Forerunner 955 Series will track a swimmer’s distance, stroke, pace, personal records and more.

Runners and triathletes can take their training to the next level by syncing indoor and outdoor workouts automatically from the Garmin Connect™ App, the Tacx training app and other third-party platforms. The Forerunner 955 Solar is compatible with Garmin Coach – free 5K, 10K and half-marathon training plans that adapt based on a runner’s goals and performance.

The Forerunner 255 Music and Forerunner 955 Series keeps the essentials on the wrist with built-in music (download up to 2,000 songs from playlists on Spotify®, Amazon Music and Deezer (premium subscription may be required), and smart notifications for calls, text messages, social media updates and alerts from an athlete’s Apple® or Android™ smartphone. Safety and tracking features provide peace of mind while training outside by sending an athlete’s live location to chosen emergency contacts – or automatically sending a message if an incident is detected. While riding inside, athletes can control a Tacx® Smart trainer via ANT+® technology right from the watch for course simulation, automatic resistance changes and workout prompts when using courses or workouts. It can be personalised with custom watch faces, data fields, and apps and widgets from the Connect IQ Store.

  • The Forerunner 255 comes in  Slate Grey and Tidal Blue and Forerunner 255S comes in Powder Grey, Bubblegum (available in Q3 2022) – and the suggested retail price of RM 1,730.
  • The Forerunner 255 Music and Forerunner 255S Music will be available in Black and Whitestone and suggested retail price is RM 1,970.
  • The Forerunner 955 Solar has a suggested retail price of RM 2,970.
  • The non-solar version of Forerunner 955 will be available at a suggested retail price of RM 2,470.
