Subang Jaya (4 August 2016) — UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT), the sole authorised importer and distributor of Toyota vehicles in Malaysia, today introduces two new premium MPVs – the All-new Toyota Alphard and All-new Toyota Vellfire. While UMWT has offered the previous generation of the Alphard in its Toyota model line-up, this is the first time that the Vellfire is being officially sold in Malaysia. For the Alphard, it is the third generation while the Vellfire, is the second generation.
At the launch event, Mr. Akio Takeyama, Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor said, “Driving conditions in Malaysia can be quite demanding. The weather conditions are usually hot and most vehicles especially MPVs often travel long distances at high speed. These situations may affect the operating temperatures of the engine and programming of the ECU (Engine Control Unit) is usually adjusted to keep the engine cool,” he explained. Such programming is only done for units that are specifically destined for Malaysia and imported by UMW Toyota Motor.
“Vehicles intended for other countries are being tuned specially for the country and they may not operate optimally in Malaysian conditions. Therefore, in order for customers to have complete peace of mind and satisfaction when driving their Toyota vehicle, I strongly recommend that they purchase the vehicles from UMWT outlet or any authorized Toyota dealers in Malaysia,” said Mr. Akio Takeyama.
Datuk Ismet Suki, President of UMW Toyota Motor, said “UMW Toyota Motor has been selling the previous generation Alphard in Malaysia. However, we did not promote it extensively as the available stocks are limited and were often taken up quickly. From this encouraging demand, it became clear that the time is right for us to give more attention to marketing the premium MPVs.”

Although both models have similarities and designs with strong character, the design themes are different; the All-New Toyota Alphard is ‘Bravely Magnificent’ while the All-new Toyota Vellfire looks ‘Bold and Fearless’. Each model also has styling features which provide, even at a glance, and the bold forms with accented surfaces depart from the conventional boxy look of traditional MPVs.
The All-new Toyota Alphard is available with a 3.5-litre V6 engine featuring Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) and other advanced technologies for high fuel efficiency and low emissions. The maximum output of 180kW/271PS of power and 340Nm of torque from the proven engine smoothly flows to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential manual mode available. To reduce fuel consumption further, there is an ECO mode which the driver can activate if desired.
The All-new Toyota Vellfire has a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine which also features Dual VVT-i. The output from this engine is 132kW/180PS of power and 235Nm of torque, also delivered to the front wheels but via a 7-speed CVT (continuously-variable transmission).
Active and Passive safety systems are provided for both vehicles as standard that include 7 SRS airbags, ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control.
The All-new Alphard is offered in two variants – Alphard 3.5 Executive Lounge and Alphard 3.5 – while the All-new Vellfire 2.5 is available as one variant. Four colour choices are available for each model: Luxury White Pearl CS. GF., White Pearl CS., Silver Metallic and Black for the All-new Alphard, and Burning Black CS. GF., White Pearl CS., Silver Metallic and Black for the All-new Vellfire. Luxury White Pearl CS.GF. and Burning Black CS.GF. are new colours developed for each model, respectively. UMW Toyota Motor is targeting to sell a combined total of around 1500 units of the two MPVs by the end of this year.
