Telekom Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TM R&D), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), received a merit award for the Best of Communications Applications category at the recent International Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) 2013,  which took place in Hong Kong.

TM R&D represented the Malaysian communications industry to compete in two (2) categories – Research & Development and Communications Applications, where it went on to receive the award for TM R&D’s Ultra Long Reach Repeaterless Terrestrial Transmission System.

The Ultra Long Reach Repeaterless Terrestrial Transmission System enables the transmission of high speed data signals over at least 300 km without repeater stations in between transmitting and receiving stations, hence expediting broadband infrastructure deployment particularly in rural areas.

The category was opened to any application software, hardware and infrastructure or its combination that relates to any transmission of signs, signals, writing, images, sounds, voice, video, data, or intelligence of any nature by digital or analog, electromagnetic or electronic signals through existing and emerging media (e.g., radio, telephone, television, facsimile, SMS, MMS, GPRS, Internet, WiFi, WiMax, 3G, LTE, Bluetooth, RFID, NFC, IPTV).

With this win, TM R&D adds on yet another award to its trophy cabinet. At the MSC Malaysia APICTA 2013 held recently, the company also bagged three (3) recognitions – Winner and Merit for the Best of Research & Development Award as well as Merit for the Best of Communications Applications category.
