Kuala Lumpur (15 August 2013) – In the spirit of Ramadhan, the time of the year where Muslims across the world fervently fast and reflect on oneself, Nikon took on a different approach in organizing its regular photography walkabout with a difference. To commemorate the holy month, a special Nikon Ramadhan Walkabout was held nationwide exclusively for its fellow Nikon Club Members to capture significant moments behind this important event.

While Nikon’s Walkabout events usually take on a more serious approach where participants compete against each other, the Ramadhan Walkabout was held as a family event where participants and their loved ones enjoy some time out of their busy lives to literally walk about while capturing the atmosphere of Malaysians from all walks of life congregating at Ramadhan bazaars around the country.

The Nikon Ramadan Walkabout event was attended by photo enthusiasts from all walks of life and ethnicities to observe and capture moments of this significant event.

According to David Ng, General Manager of Consumer Products and Marketing, “The Ramadhan Walkabout is one event where family members are able to join in together with participants without any serious photography objectives, as usually the case during our normal walkabouts. The Ramadhan Walkabouts are simply a time to celebrate the spirit of togetherness and the multi-cultural practices here in Malaysia.”

Held for three weeks during the month of Ramadhan, the event took place in 9 states, namely Kuantan (Pahang), Kota Bharu (Kelantan), Kuala Terengganu (Terengganu), Kuala Dungun (Terengganu), Kuching (Sarawak), Johor Bahru (Johor Bahru), Kota Kinabalu (Sabah), Alor Setar (Kedah) and Ipoh (Perak).

The Walkabout drew strong support from the members with a turnout of 80 to 120 members (numbers excluding family members). Participants were seen gathering around 5.00pm and an air of excitement could clearly be felt as they chattered away in anticipation for the event to kickstart.

Family members comprising both the young and old from all walks of life formed the life of the event, and the sea of ‘green’-clad Nikon t-shirt participants soon took the attention of the public as they ‘traveled’ from place to place, much to the surprise of passersby.

Capturing the essence of Ramadhan Bazaars, participants discussed and shared tips and ideas on getting the right picture, from angle focus to choosing the right lens depending on the occasion.

As the event approaches to an end, some unanimously agreed to break fast together. The meal was shared by members across various ethnicities. In the spirit of Ramadhan. Nikon Malaysia provided participants with bottles of water and boxes of ‘kurma’ to complete their breaking of fast.

“Nikon believes that festive moment of various ethnicities forms a strong integral part of what is Malaysia today, and has since held events like the Ramadhan Walkabout for its Nikon Members as a testament to that belief”, said David Ng,

“Events like the Walkabout are a platform for family to get together and foster a stronger relationship, it also brings together various families for a time of laughter, creating friendship, and sharing moments that are priceless. Memories that can be immortalized through pictures, speaks a thousand words. Nikon seeks to help consumers in creating their life chapter and with the right camera, anything is possible. These are the core essence that Nikon stands for, creating cameras that are able to make memories “at the heart of the image”, Ng continued.

The Nikon Ramadhan Walkabout has been held annually since 2011 and this event is open free to all Nikon Club Members. Members who seek to enquire for more information can get in touch with a Nikon Club representative by emailing [email protected], or by calling +603–2142 0218.
