Kuala Lumpur (June 27, 2013) – The Low Yat Group of Companies has identified Plaza Low Yat and bbpark for a refurbishment and facelift exercise in a continuous effort to improve the shoppers’ experience and create new growth opportunities for its retailers. The multimillion refurbishment project to the existing buildings, which will look like it has taken a page from a nature-themed interior design magazine, will start in the third quarter of this year and will be completed in phases, with plans for full completion six months later. The project is heavily inspired by Mother Nature and organic green living, featuring a lot of plant-walls, open spaces and smooth flow of traffic.

Plaza Low Yat

“With more than 600 tenants and 310,000sqft of retail space, Plaza Low Yat, Malaysia’s Largest IT Lifestyle Mall, has successfully established and entrenched itself as the “must-go-to” destination for all that is related to technology and gadgets. It has become a shopping paradise for the techno-geeks, attracting over 15 million shoppers annually”, said Mr. Low Gee Teong, Executive Director, Low Yat Group of Companies. “ With this latest refurbishment project, we are keeping the whole area relevant and aligned with the evolving desires of the shoppers. We are giving it a feel of a high street shopping environment, energised with new shopping and dining choices, a lot of green areas, alfresco dining and generally cosier environment to spend time in, between the shopping trips”, he added.

The fans of Plaza Low Yat have a lot to look forward to. The main entrance will feature an upper and lower terrace with quality F&B outlets, complete with covered terrace seating for alfresco lovers. The increased greenery will add to the aesthetic value of the area and create the feeling of having a peaceful ‘picnic’ in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Bukit Bintang. The overhead coverage will be extended, while the boulevard pavement and the road will feature a modern stone finish to make the boulevard terrace and the walkway fully pedestrian-friendly.

These improvements will also have a positive effect on existing tenants, who will be looking to spruce up their own shop-fronts, quality of service and range of products, thus keeping up with the overall quality of experience that the shoppers will have right upon entering the new and improved Mall.

bbpark

The multi-million refurbishment works will also extend to bbpark, renowned for its multicultural activities and nostalgia music, and popular among the locals and tourists alike. The same “nature-inspired” theme that Plaza Low Yat will feature, will carry on to the overall enhancements of the bbpark too, boasting abundant plants-carrying walls and fun and trendy public area furniture integrated into the new and improved landscape to keep up with current trends and lifestyles. To address the comfort of visitors to bbpark, the drop-off area will be improved to ease the traffic into bbpark while the main entrance to bbpark will be connected to Plaza Low Yat with a unified boulevard and full overhead coverage against the elements. This roof-cover will further extend to connect The Federal Hotel, and the Federal Arcade providing even more reasons for shoppers and consumers to make the area their all-in-one destination.

Finally, a centre stage will be built for bbpark to continue hosting events and cultural activities and bring the entertainment value, for which this destination is renowned, to the next level; while the new multicoloured LED lights will create a contemporary and pleasing ambiance.

“These are certainly exciting times for Kuala Lumpur. Our plan is to transform this vibrant and popular area to be a city within a city in the near future and in line with this, we are bringing together Plaza Low Yat, bbpark, Federal Arcade, The Federal Kuala Lumpur and Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur into one, centralized, lifestyle hub that will provide just about everything a consumer needs while enhancing their retail and shopping experience”, enthused Mr. Low.
