YES DATABACK rewards Shopee Customers with Free Data

Malaysia’s online shoppers now have a new boost when they shop online – they can earn free YES DATABACK when they shop for their necessities, fashion accessories, home improvement items, health and beauty products and more on Shopee.

YTL Communications today announced the launch of the fourth pillar to its on-going YES Kasi Up initiative, YES DATABACK, which will be exclusively available on Shopee.

As the name suggests, YES DATABACK offers free data to consumers when they shop on partner platforms. Shopee customers can now start earning 5GB of free data with every RM50 they spend on Shopee, and receive up to 100GB each month. For a limited time, YES is also offering its YES Kasi Up Prepaid 15 plan, which retails at RM15/month and comes with 10GB of data with a 30-day validity period, for just RM1 to first-time YES SIM card buyers on Shopee. The SIM card pack will be delivered right to the doorsteps of Shopee users for free.

Speaking to the media, YTL Communications Managing Director Dato’ Yeoh Seok Hong said that the rapid digitisation of the consumer buying experience over this past year requires forward-looking businesses to explore new ways of meeting and exceeding consumer expectations in the digital space, including helping the rakyat to stretch their ringgit further.

“Our mission to help the nation digitise with the most affordable plans in the market began with the launch of our Kasi Up initiative last week. The partnership with Shopee which gives data back to the rakyat as they shop for their daily essentials is a further expression of our Kasi Up philosophy. We are creating a virtuous cycle of consumption by making every ringgit the rakyat spends give much more value in return. And we need to help them embrace the digital economy, to be online. It’s about making data accessible and affordable, and about the democratisation of e-commerce. Taking the best of telco, and putting it in the retail space,” he said.

Commenting on the partnership, Ian Ho, Regional Managing Director of Shopee said, “The Covid-19 pandemic and Malaysia’s introduction of the Movement Control Order has increased the dependence and usage of the internet by Malaysians in all facets of life, including online shopping and entertainment. The growing importance of both data and e-commerce in the lives of consumers has led us to come together with YES to offer something really special to Malaysians – the first-of-its-kind reward programme which incentivises users with free data when they spend on Shopee. This free data can then be used for work, education, video streaming and more. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration with YES as we work together to provide greater value and convenience to Malaysians.”

In a presentation detailing how Shopee customers earn and redeem YES DATABACK, YTL Communications Chief Executive Officer Wing K Lee explained that the process was simple.  All customers needed to do was to get onto Shopee, purchase a YES SIM for only RM1, and have it delivered for free to their home. Once they activate the SIM via the MyYes app, they can start referring YES Kasi Up plans to friends and family, and earn an income through the Kasi Up Refer & Earn programme, giving them much-needed funds to shop for everyday essentials.

“The income they earn from the Kasi Up Refer & Earn programme, coupled with the great value shoppers find on Shopee, means they can be better positioned to meet their family’s needs. And when they spend, they earn free data. The free data helps them to keep learning, to keep their business going, to participate in the internet economy, and to shop for their needs online. It is about creating a constant flow of cash and data for every Malaysian. Everyone earning, everyone going digital, everyone connecting, and everyone shopping,” said Mr Lee.

YES DATABACK comes hot on the heels of the first three YES Kasi Up pillars launched last week – YES Kasi Up Prepaid 15, which at RM15/month offers the market’s lowest-priced plan with the highest amount of data and the longest validity; Kasi Up Postpaid 49, which comes at RM49/month for 100GB of data, with 6 months free on a two-year contract, as well as YES Kasi Up Refer & Earn, which allows YES subscribers to earn up to RM50 each time they refer YES to friends and family, with their friends and family earning too. Kasi Up is a quintessential Malaysian colloquialism, meaning to give someone a boost, or a helping hand.
