Pos Malaysia issues New National Definitive Stamp Series featuring Iconic Marine Life

The beauty and diversity of Malaysian marine life are featured on Pos Malaysia’s new national definitive stamp series which will be available starting 18 June 2020 (Thursday) via Pos Malaysia’s online store at www.eziemall.com and all Post Offices nationwide.

The “National Definitive Series: Iconic Marine Life” will offer five stamp designs and introduce new denominations featuring iconic marine life of Malaysia namely Hawksbill Turtle (RM1.30), Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin (RM1.40), Whale Shark (RM1.50), Small Giant Clam (RM1.70) and Dugong (RM1.90). These new denominations are introduced to accommodate the new commercial mail rates.

As for the Miniature Sheet (MS), it will come in a unique die-cut design of a Hawksbill Turtle hatchling with spot UV printing technique that carries RM5.00 face value.

Avid stamp collectors and marine life enthusiasts should grab their chance to obtain the complete collection, as only a limited number of 1,500 folder sets will be produced. The complete folder set is priced at RM102.80 each and consists of five stamp sheets with 10 perforated stamps on each sheet, one loose miniature sheet, one first day cover with five stamps and one first day cover with a miniature sheet, information brochures and a folder. Both first day covers will be marked with Hawksbill Turtle cancellations, with the date of issuance (18 June 2020). Customers can also choose to purchase individual items of the new national definitive stamp series.

In view of the Recovery Movement Control Order period, Pos Malaysia is pleased to extend the walk-in purchase period for three days from 18 – 20 June 2020, for customers to obtain their first day cover and cancellation mark.

Pos Malaysia Group Head of Marketing, Schrene Goh said “Malaysia’s coasts and seas are richly endowed with marine species and natural resources, and it is our duty to protect and conserve these treasures to ensure it remains intact and undamaged for future generations. The new “Iconic Marine Life” national definitive series captures the beauty of our ocean treasures and aims to raise awareness on the importance of marine conservation.”

In conjunction with the release of this national definitive stamp series, Pos Malaysia joins in the marine conservation effort by adopting a total of 10 turtle nests which would provide around 1,000 turtle eggs a safe and secure environment throughout the incubation period in the warm beach sand. The hatcheries are operated by two turtle conservation organisations namely Lang Tengah Turtle Watch in Tanjong Jara, Terengganu and Juara Turtle Project in Pulau Tioman, Pahang.

“We also encourage the public to join us in the ongoing conservation effort. Donations can be made directly to Lang Tengah Turtle Watch at www.langtengahturtlewatch.org and Juara Turtle Project at www.juaraturtleproject.com,” said Schrene.

Definitive stamp is a postage stamp that is part of the regular issue of a country’s stamps, available for sale by the post office for an extended period, for five years or more, and designed to serve the everyday postal needs of the country. On the contrary, Special and Commemorative stamps are only printed one-time and sold in a limited quantity, and often are sought after by stamp collectors.

Stamp collectors and the public may sign-up for the Standing Order Deposit Account (SODA) to experience a hassle-free process in purchasing the latest stamp issues as well as enjoying exclusive benefits offered by SODA. Those interested to be part of the SODA community can do so by signing up at any post offices nationwide or online at www.posonline.com.my.
