Co-Making Space MOX launches Largest Hub to bring together Local Creatives in Kuala Lumpur’s City Centre

MOX, a brand under Singapore-based creative retail space activation and events management company INVADE, has launched MOX Malaysia in collaboration with Sunway Putra Mall. Riding on the success of its existing concept in Singapore, the new co-making space is now the largest of its kind in Malaysia, with the aim of bringing together and empowering the creative community through collaborative workspaces, opportunities to ideate and access to an international platform.

“While Malaysia’s creative industry continues to flourish, the creative talent pool is still largely fragmented and siloed,” said Kent Teo, CEO of INVADE. “As the leading innovative retail space organiser that owns and organises some of the biggest pop-up markets in Singapore and Malaysia, we’re constantly in touch with these creatives. Throughout the years, we’ve become acutely aware of their pain points, such as a lack of a dedicated creative workspace, limited access to equipment and tools, and limited opportunities to build a common networking ground. We are dedicated to solving these challenges through MOX Malaysia.”

During the recent tabling of Budget 2020, the government announced that over RM1 billion would be allocated to boost entrepreneurship in Malaysia, across multiple segments of the society. In view of this, the launch of MOX Malaysia and its aspirations has emerged at an opportune time to support the local creative talent pool and entrepreneurs.

MOX Malaysia is located at the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s central business district with its prime location in Sunway Putra Mall. Spanning 21,000 sq. ft in gross floor area, MOX Malaysia houses a co-working space, marketplace, café and a plethora of specialty facilities all on one floor. This includes a 2,000 sq. ft auditorium and screening room for creatives to host gigs, film productions, make presentations and engage openly with their audiences. The co-making space will also have easy access to the rest of the city, with a direct connection to Putra World Trade Center Light Rapid Transit (LRT) station.

Offering budding creatives greater access to production capabilities, MOX Malaysia houses novel facilities such as professional resource studios for photography, videography and audio recording in addition to a general workshop for experiential workshops and craft sessions.

MOX Malaysia serves as a growth enabler for creative businesses, with retail elements such as Marketplace – a curated multi-label retail zone featuring artisanal, hand-picked design goods created by the members themselves. The Waiting Gallery, apart from serving as a concierge service and waiting space for non-members, is also a communal art gallery to showcase members’ works. There is also an on-site social cafe, as a wind-down zone for both members and the public, and to host meetings on-the-go.

To further nurture a creative ecosystem, MOX Malaysia conducts regular entrepreneurial talks and community get-togethers to build connections and inspire the exchange of new ideas across a variety of disciplines from leather to fine art. Members will also have the opportunity to organise creative workshops at MOX Malaysia and appear in INVADE’s immensely popular retail markets including Artbox and Shilin Night Market.

“With MOX’s first overseas expansion to Malaysia, we are also effectively creating a two-way channel for cross-collaboration between Singapore and Malaysia’s creative communities. Our MOX network now extends beyond these two cities to include the wider region such as Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand,” said Teo.

“Through this partnership with MOX Malaysia, we are excited to usher in the next phase of retail innovation, where businesses must create meaningful retail experiences to connect with customers in order to stay ahead,” said Kevin Tan, COO of Sunway Malls. “As such, Sunway Putra Mall is committed to building a vibrant community alongside MOX Malaysia by integrating our current tenant offerings with dynamic co-making and co-working spaces.”

MOX Malaysia offers three co-working space options to accommodate different types of creative enterprises. They include Flexi Desk, an open concept space; Permanent Desk, a dedicated desk in a shared space; and also, the Private Studio, a private office space ideal for teams up to eight. All three options grant members access to member rates for facilities rental and community events.
