Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) strengthened its commitment to connect more Malaysians across the country as it introduces Digi Home Fibre in Sabah to support Sabahans’ growing digital needs. This is Digi’s first commercial fibre broadband offering following several pilot rollouts earlier this year in select areas such as Jasin, Subang, Rawang and Kajang.
Powered by Malaysia’s largest network, Digi Home Fibre offers unlimited speeds of up to 1Gbps at prices starting from as low as RM99 per month with complimentary modem and installation within two days. As part of the Digi Home Fibre launch, new and existing customers in Sabah can enjoy a lifetime rebate of up to RM20 when pairing selected Digi Postpaid plans together with Digi Home Fibre plans. With this bundle plan, Digi Home Fibre starts from RM89 per month for 50Mbps, and runs up to RM179 per month for 1Gbps instead of RM199 a month. This special promotion runs until 30 September 2019.
Digi’s Chief Marketing Officer Loh Keh Jiat said that high-speed connectivity is of key importance to Sabahans, with customers typically consuming an average 11.4GB of data monthly. “Sabahans love the internet, and are some of the biggest internet users on our network. Customers in Sabah continue to choose Digi as their preferred mobile connectivity provider, and introducing Digi Home Fibre gives us the opportunity to serve them and their families with the best value, seamless and consistent internet experience in and outside the home.”
This latest offering is part of Digi’s drive to explore a wider range of connectivity options for more Malaysians across the country, in line with the ambitions of the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP).
“Better access to affordable, high-quality connectivity is a key catalyst towards greater socio-economic opportunities for Malaysians, and accelerating the digital transformation of key economic sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture, to name a few. Sabah is a priority area for us, and we believe a more connected state will enable more Sabahans and businesses to participate in the digital economy, fuelling growth, and priming the state for opportunities that will arise from emerging new technologies on the horizon such as 5G, IoT and AI.”
Over the years, the company has actively rolled out its high-quality network across Sabah, now serving the state’s population with 4G LTE: 84%, and LTE-A: 66% coverage. In addition to better access to connectivity, Digi has also rolled out digital solutions offerings, and digital literacy programmes to help include and digitalise more segments of the society.
Through partnerships and outreach programmes, the company has supported small and medium businesses (SMEs) to bolster their digital capabilities, working closely with SMEs in industries such as transportation and utilities to identify opportunities to enhance their operations, leveraging on mobile and fixed connectivity solutions, IoT and a wide array of digital business solutions.
Digi also operates 132 Internet Centres nationwide with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), six of which are in Beluran, Tawau, Semporna and Sandakan. Youths from within the vicinity have open access to the internet and future skills training available at these centres. The customised future skills curriculum, which includes coding and programming, is aimed at providing youths from underserved communities the equal opportunity to learn fundamental digital skills that could contribute to their future success.
Loh said that the company will continue to play a key role in providing affordable, widespread access to high-quality internet connectivity and relevant digital solutions for the benefit of Malaysians and businesses nationwide, and for the progress of the country.
