2016 MOTUL Sepang 12 Hours Flags Off
Sepang (10 December 2016) — The 2016 MOTUL Sepang 12 Hours flagged off at noon today with drivers powering down the straight into Turn 1 of the track in quick succession at Sepang International Circuit (SIC). The celebrated Malaysian endurance race saw a total of 25 teams battling for supremacy across an array of categories.
“We can really feel the adrenaline in the air today as the teams aim to win the 2016 MOTUL Sepang 12 Hours as well as the inaugural Intercontinental GT Challenge. With increased interest and enthusiasm for GT Racing all over the world, we are excited to continue working with our partner SRO Motorsports Group to grow this format of racing in Malaysia,” said Dato’ Razlan Razali, Chief Executive Officer of SIC.
Prior to the race, the vocal stylings of Zizi Kirana led the crowd in the Negaraku anthem, after which drivers started their engines and braced for the adrenaline rush ahead. In pole and third positions were Team Manthey Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 Rs, while Team K-Pax Racing’s McLaren 650 S GT3 claimed second position at the starting grid.
“We pleased with the local interest this year, with the participation of Malaysian teams such as Team Viper Niza Racing driving a Seat Leon TC in the Touring Car category, Team Nexus Infinity driving a Ferrari 458 GT3 in the GT3 category, as well as Ayelzo Ecotint Racing with a Ginetta G55 GT4 in the GT4 category. This augurs well for growth in the local GT racing scene,” added Dato’ Razlan.
Apart from the action on the track, motorsports fans can also check out the Car Boot Sale Mercato, happening in the latter part of the day from 6.00pm to 12.00am at the Main Grandstand. More than 150 vendor booths will be open, offering an array of attractive items.
