Vuclip partners with U Mobile, bringing OTT Service Viu to U Mobile subscribers

Kuala Lumpur (28 April 2016) — Vuclip, a PCCW Media Company, has entered into a partnership with U Mobile Sdn Bhd, the telco with the fastest network in Malaysia. Now, U Mobile customers can enjoy more than 10,000 hours of premium Asian content on the go with Viu through U Mobile’s Video- Onz™ service. Viu is an Over-the-Top (OTT) video-on-demand (VOD) service launched in Malaysia by Vuclip in February this year.

U Mobile subscribers of P70, i90 and i130 post-paid plans will now enjoy complimentary unlimited video streaming through Viu without using their data. Other post-paid and broadband customers will enjoy an additional 100 percent data allocated to the Video-Onz™ service while prepaid users will enjoy an extra 100 percent data bundle for Video-Onz™ through the purchase of UMI/MB data packages. Viu will also offer 60 days of complimentary access to premium content for U Mobile customers.

Commenting on the partnership, Mr Kingsley Warner, General Manager of Vuclip Malaysia said: “Malaysians want to view their favourite videos on the go. Viu brings the best of Asian entertainment, including the latest from Korea, India, Malaysia, Taiwan and Indonesia. We know that data consumption and additional data charges are key concerns for Malaysian viewers. This partnership allows U Mobile customers to watch videos on demand whenever and wherever they want, with peace of mind.”

According to the Q4 2015 Global Video Insights (GVI) released by Vuclip, 23 percent of Malaysian consumers view video content using smartphones. 56 per cent of respondents highlighted high data consumption as a key concern around smartphone video viewing.

Since the service was launched in Malaysia in February 2016, Viu has seen a high level of engagement with consumers. The average Viu user watches 20 videos a month. The top viewed include this year’s mega hit: Descendants of the Sun, along with the classic favourite Running Man and the recently popular Oh My Venus, as well as the latest Indian Bollywood movies, Jazbaa and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, ‘Dia Isteri Luar Biasa’, ‘Teman Lelaki Upahan’, ‘Hati Perempuan’ and ‘Kopitiam’.

The latest selected Korean dramas are available subtitled in English eight hours after their Korean premiere and in Bahasa Malaysia and Simplified Chinese within 24 hours, providing a fresh and localised experience.

Viu is accessible on mobile phones and tablets as well as desktops by downloading the Viu app on Google Play, Apple App Store or by typing in www.viu.com on your desktop browser.
