Reinvention of camera, reinvention of DP SIGMA dp0 Quattro
The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the new addition of a high image quality compact camera, the SIGMA dp0 Quattro that incorporates the Foveon X3 direct image sensor.
The “SIGMA dp0 Quattro” incorporates a high performance 14mm F4 lens (equivalent to a 21mm lens on a 35mm SLR), which is designed to maximize the Quattro sensor’s performance. In order to achieve the highest optical performance, the lens features 4 FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite and 2 SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements to minimize chromatic aberration. By incorporating 2 aspherical lenses, including a wide double-sided aspherical lens, distortion is reduce to less than 1% when shot at infinity, maximizing lens performance. It offers sharp rendering performance from the widest aperture, improves images quality throughout the frame and maximizes the sensor’s ability by accurately passing on image information about subjects to the sensor.
Excellent in optical performance, the wide angle of view of 91 degrees and depth of field are ideal for architectural structures, interior photography and landscapes. The dedicated Optical Viewfinder VF-51 (optional) offers accurate framing and makes composition easier as it is unfaffected by external light conditions. With the addition of the “SIGMA dp0 Quattro” to the line-up, photographers can select the most suitable camera based on their photographic needs, 21mm (SIGMA dp0 Quattro), 28mm (SIGMA dp1 Quattro), 45mm (SIGMA dp2 Quattro), 75mm (SIGMA dp3 Quattro) and 90mm (SIGMA dp3 Quattro + dedicated conversion lens 1.2x).
The Foveon direct image sensor captures color vertically, recording hue, value, and chroma accurately and completely for each pixel, enabling the expression of rich gradation and tone. Moreover, there is no low-pass filter needed to correct the interference caused by a color filter array, unlike the data from other sensors, which requires artificial interpolation to “fill in” missing colors. The data from the Foveon direct image sensor is complete with light and color information for every single pixel. The new sensor features a pixel ratio of 1:1:4 from the bottom, middle to top layer. The Foveon X3 Quattro direct image sensor is able to detect a broad range of light wavelengths.

The SIGMA dp0 Quattro has High size and Low size to selet from depending on the purpose of the photography. High size gets the best performance out of the images sensor both with RAW data and JPEG and Low size focuses more on number of images that can be recorded.
