The New Sporty Vespa Sprint

Petaling Jaya (9 April 2015) — NAZA Premira Sdn Bhd, the sole and official importer of Vespa scooters in Malaysia, upped the ante in two-wheeled style today after taking the covers off the chic and zesty Vespa Sprint. The all new scooter is the spiritual successor of the Vespa S and joins a stable of popular Vespa models already plying Malaysian roads in droves.

The introduction of the Vespa Sprint marks the return of the legendary Vespino, a generation of sporty Vespas that lit up European streets in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Despite the large generation gap, the Vespa Sprint preserves vintage aesthetic characteristics such as the sporty saddle accentuated by a black cover with a white line finish and the signature square headlamp.

Nevertheless, the Vespa Sprint is still a new scooter in a modern day body. Its timeless looks are refined by state-of-the-art features such as LED daytime running lights, multifunction digital display and redesigned 12-inch aluminium alloy rims. The rear-view mirrors have also been reworked to flow with the scooter’s stylish exterior.

Powering the Vespa Sprint is a sophisticated 150cc, single-cylinder 4-stroke engine with 3 valves (2 intake, 1 exhaust), single overhead cam and electronic fuel injection. Designed and built in Piaggio’s Pontedera plant, the new engine’s unique 3-valve architecture is lighter and more fuel-efficient than most conventional 2-valve engines. A new free-wheel electric starter and dry centrifugal clutch help bring consumption levels down. Officially, the Vespa Sprint is capable of returning 64km/l at an average speed of 50km/h.

Breakthroughs in structural engineering have made it possible to increase the Vespa Sprint’s headstock rigidity by 36% and longitudinal bend by 154% without compromising on weight. This thoroughly enhances the safety and stability of the Vespa Sprint while maintaining the essence of a Vespa scooter – its elegant simplicity and enjoyable riding dynamics.

A redesigned frame which sees the battery moved into the central tunnel of the footrest frees up 16.6 litres of space in the helmet compartment while the footrest conformation is designed for optimum room, comfort and posture for both rider and pillion. Vibrations are kept at bay by a new engine mounting system made up of 2-position arms and a new front suspension which connects to the wheel via a hinged pin instead of screws.

“The Vespa Sprint is an important model for Piaggio and NAZA Premira Sdn Bhd as it embodies the core elements that have defined the Vespa brand for over half a century while being the ambassador of Vespa’s new, class-leading technologies. It is a welcome addition to the local line-up of Vespa scooters and we hope bike-loving Malaysians will take this opportunity to experience all the Vespa Sprint has to offer,” said Datuk Wira Hj. SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin, Group Executive Chairman & Group CEO, NAZA World Group of Companies.

“Vespa Malaysia has seen a vast growth and it is expected that the new Vespa Sprint will contribute 20% to the total sales volume. We are confident to have a 100% growth of sales volume as compared to year 2014,” added Datuk Wira Hj. SM Faisal.

The Vespa Sprint is priced at RM13,888 (excluding 6% GST) with 2 years manufacturer’s warranty or 20,000km (whichever comes first). It is available in six exciting colours: Montebianco (white), Rosso Dragon (red), Grigio Titanio (grey), Blu Midnight (dark blue), yellow and orange.

“Currently, Vespa Malaysia has 25 authorised dealers in Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia that are fully compliant with the Vespa Corporate Identity (CI). To further strengthen and solidify the brand’s local presence, we aimed to add on another 5, making it of 30 dealer networks across Malaysia. We also welcome any interested parties to be part of the Vespa dealer network across Malaysia,” said Datuk Wira Haji SM Faisal.

In conjunction with the Malaysian launch of the Vespa Sprint, NAZA Premira Sdn Bhd has rolled out the Vespa Assist service, making Vespa the first motorcycle brand in Malaysia to offer bike assist services to its customers. Supported by AAM bikers assist, the Vespa Assist service offers 24/7 breakdown assistance, free-towing services (depending on zones), minor on-the-spot repair services, AAM Motor Insurance and Vehicle Inspection and Valuation services, among other amenities.
