“One of our biggest challenges is localization. We have done careful research on travelers’ behavior and watched booking trends in Malaysia, in which most users would like to search various hotel-booking services then come back to us again and see if we have the best deals. Only through this could we improve the app quality and customer service,” Laboutka remarked. The company’s growth has been facilitated by a major fundraising round that earned USD 4.5m (RM15.1m). The round was led by one of Japan’s leading VCs, GREE, Inc., and co-investor Mr. William E. Heinecke, CEO & Chairman of Thai-based Minor International. In an earlier statement, Heinecke commented: “We’re seeing a clear shift from online to mobile, and as traditional booking channels lose ground, there is tremendous opportunity for a service like HotelQuickly in the Asia-Pacific region.”

HotelQuickly currently has a network of hotels in 10 different locations throughout Malaysia, which includes all major cities and tourist destinations. As more hotels join their network, they plan to expand their reach to other destinations within Malaysia as quickly as possible. With one of the highest smartphone penetration in the region, HotelQuickly will only continue to support more Malaysians to find the best value when booking hotels at the last minute.
