Shah Alam (5 August 2014) – DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (DiGi) today launched the second edition of the Telenor Youth Summit, a competition that calls for youths to submit ideas or initiatives on how digital communication can be utilised to fuel social and economic change. Two winners from this challenge will represent Malaysia at the Summit which will be held in Oslo, Norway on 9-11 December 2014.

The Telenor Youth Summit is an inspiring three-day conference organised by Telenor Group, in partnership with the Nobel Peace Center. This global initiative will bring together 28 social entrepreneurs – two from each of Telenor’s 13 business units across Asia and Europe, including DiGi – to learn, collaborate, refine and extend the impact of their mobile internet initiatives towards a better future for individuals and communities in their respective countries.

Last year, two young Malaysians – Farah Fathiah Fauzi and Wong Gwen Yi represented Malaysia at the inaugural Telenor Youth Summit. 21-year-old law student Farah’s winning initiative was a mobile platform focusing on addressing the discrimination and marginalisation of women. Gwen Yi, 20, a pre-University student, came in with an app to enable the sharing of innovative learning tools and tips among teachers.

The Summit coincides with the Nobel Peace Prize event, and offers youths the invaluable opportunity to engage with international leaders and opinions makers through inspirational sessions and collaborative workshops besides participating in the event’s social activities.

Joachim Rajaram, DiGi’s Head of Communications & Corporate Responsibility said the competition is aligned to DiGi and Telenor’s ambition to enable Internet For All. “Mobile internet helps drive change, fuel growth and create equal opportunities for everyone. Through this competition, we are challenging the internet generation to use mobile technology to improve lives, empower societies, and drive inclusive growth. The Telenor Youth Summit presents a valuable opportunity for youth to do this and extend their reach at a global level.”

The Telenor Youth Summit challenge is open to youths aged between 18 and 25 years old, who are passionate about social, economic or environmental change, and currently working on an initiative or have an innovative idea on how digital communication can make our future better.
