Selangor (29 August 2014) – Canon proudly celebrates the 50th Anniversary of its pioneering calculator range this year through the unveiling of a special edition calculator, the KS-50TH. A high specification heavy duty calculator, this top-of-the-range, meticulously designed KS-50TH is yet another demonstration of Canon’s continuous innovation and technological advancement since its first foray into the business equipment market 50 years previously.

In 1964, Canon took the market by storm with the launch of the Canola 130, the world’s first 10-key electronic calculator that soon became an indispensable tool for businesses and factories around the globe. In the years that followed, Canon continued to revolutionise the market by combining its knowledge and expertise to produce calculator models that more than meet the evolving needs of its users.

Not only was Canon the first to incorporate integrated circuits (IC) into the electronic calculator range, it also pioneered a worldwide shift in calculator designs – from bulky to pocket-size – with the introduction of its first hand-held battery-operated calculator prototype, the Pocketronic in 1970. Canon’s calculators bore increasingly modern designs and enhanced functions throughout the next decades, leading the company to establish a wide and loyal customer base for its calculator range, which includes handheld, desktop, office printing, and scientific models.

A socially responsible company, Canon also unveiled its sustainable calculator series that are manufactured using recycled Canon product materials, as well as incorporated solar panels into its calculator models in a bid to further protect and conserve the environment.

Canon’s innovation and sensitivity to market trends have led the company to attain several significant achievements throughout these 50 years. At its peak in 1997, Canon recorded an all-high record for its calculator’s annual sales of 10 million units. Besides that, Canon also won two international design awards, the iF Product Design Award and Red Dot Design Award for its stylish X Mark I and X Mark II series.

With the launch of its 50th Anniversary calculator, Canon is set to command the attention of professionals and executives yet again. Projecting elegance with its distinct light gold colour and specially printed 50th anniversary logo on its aluminium casing, the KS-50TH incorporates a silent key input technology that helps maintain a noise-free working environment. This premium calculator is also designed with an automatic power off function and an adjustable display to enhance user experience. Furthermore, each unit comes with an individual serial number, adding exclusivity and value for users and collectors alike. The KS-50TH 50th Anniversary calculator is now available at a RRP of RM149.
