Disney Tsum Tsum Debuts in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (11 July 2014) – LINE Corporation, owner and operator of the free call and messaging app LINE, today announced the release of the English version of LINE: Disney Tsum Tsum for both Android and iPhone devices in 40 countries and regions worldwide. The LINE: Disney Tsum Tsum game which has been downloaded over 14 million times in Japan was designed and developed under the license from Walt Disney Japan (CEO: Paul Candland) and NHN PlayArt (CEO: Masaki Kato).
LINE: Disney Tsum Tsum features Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Stitch and many more Disney characters in the adorable “Tsum Tsum” stuffed toy form and involves players connecting 3 or more Tsums to gain points within 1 minute. Once the time limit is over, the final score is determined by the final amount of eliminated Tsums. Eliminating 5 or more Tsums gives the player Coins that can be used to purchase items and eliminating 7 or more grants the “Magical Bubble” item, which can be used to eliminate multiple Tsums at once.
“When the LINE: Disney Tsum Tsum was released in Japan and gained traction to become the top free app on both the iOS and Android platforms, LINE felt it was right to introduce it to the Malaysian market and we know it is going to appeal to everyone of all ages,” said Patricia Yeoh, Public Relations Manager, LINE Malaysia. “LINE is proud to bring the magic of Disney to a wider audience through the LINE platform.”
Players can choose from 29 different characters to be their “My Tsum”, and will be able to power up their character by eliminating other Tsums of the same type and gain special abilities such as the ability to stop time or eliminate all the Tsums at the center of the screen at once.
To compete with friends, players can link the app with LINE, or send and receive Hearts, which are required to play the game.
The game which was initially released in Japan on January 29 has already surpassed 14 million downloads, achieving the top spot in both the Apple iOS App Store and Google Play Store. The popularity of the app has also helped boost sales of the Tsum Tsum stuffed toys by 40% in Japan.
Spurred by the success in Japan, the English version of LINE: Disney Tsum Tsum was released globally in 40 countries and regions, with a focus on western markets such as the United Kingdom and the United States, and East Asian markets including Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia. By offering the game on the LINE platform, which has a global total of over 1 billion downloads, the service providers hope to achieve further growth on a global scale.
