DiGi WWWOW Internet For All Awards

KUALA LUMPUR (27 June 2014) – Recently, DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (“DiGi”) announced three of Malaysia’s favourite netizens at the DiGi WWWoW Awards Finale including the winner for the DiGi WWWOW Judges Choice Award, in an extravaganza that brought together some of the biggest players in the Malaysian Internet scene under one roof.

Christina Mei Mei Ng from Welcome to Shoe Heaven walked away with the DiGi WWWOW Commerce award, James Lee Thim Heng of Doghouse 73 Pictures took home the DiGi WWWOW Content award, Teng Say Aun of 4Charity received the DiGi WWWOW Community award, while Pocotee Loh of Pocotee & Friends won the DiGi WWWOW Judges Choice Award.

Christian Thrane, DiGi’s Chief Marketing Officer said that since its introduction, the DiGi WWWOW Awards was conceptualised to recognise internet talents. “It is an avenue for us to acknowledge Malaysians netizens who have made full use of the internet to provide easy access to information and knowledge, and make products and services accessible to everyone regardless of socio-economic circumstances or geography.”
“The role of netizens in creating and proliferating online content and services is key to nurturing a thriving internet ecosystem. We believe the internet has huge potential in empowering individuals and communities. In line with our mission to deliver Internet For All, we will continue to create opportunities and platforms such as the DiGi WWWOW Awards to engage users and help them realise the full benefits of being connected,” Thrane added.

The DiGi WWWOW Internet For All Awards 2014 received 750 entries and 50,000 votes, over a period of 8 weeks since the launch in April. There were also 6,500 tweets carrying the #DGWWWOW hashtag recorded, which created more than 10 million impressions to date, while the WWWOW.my microsite saw 238,230 page views from 97,967 visitors. Endorsed by the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC), this year’s awards programme recognises Malaysia’s top talents in Commerce, Content and Community who have inspired others to achieve greater things and do more good through the power of the internet.

Great performances and goodies
DiGi WWWOW Internet For All Awards 2014 was streamed live on www.wwwow.my, and offered viewers the chance to win three Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphones. The event was hosted by Ryan and Jin from Hitz.fm, and saw great performances by local performers such as dance troupe Wakaka Crew, singers Neeta/IamNeeta and Diandra Arjunaidi, producer and rapper Caprice and beatbox performer Shawn Lee.

The DiGi WWWOW Internet For All Awards 2014 programme was supported by partners Google, Lowyat.NET, Mudah.my, Says.my, iTrain, Yahoo, AsiaWeb Direct, Mindvalley, Samsung, AIG and Astro.

The DiGi WWWOW Internet for All Awards is Malaysia’s first award event that celebrates the achievements of ordinary Malaysians who are avid internet users. It is based on 100% user-generated entries to showcase the incredible creativity, ingenuity and entrepreneurialism of our netizens.
