Kuala Lumpur (11 June 2014) – What do you get when you combine cutting-edge cameras, latest connectivity technology, Venetian harlequins, mime acts and scrapbooking? A blast of an event that connects everyone together!

That was exactly what took place at the Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Canon)’s social event, ‘SocialSync: Chilling Out With Canon’ which brought together 115 members of the traditional and social media for a fun and relaxing experiential hands-on journey with some of Canon’s latest cameras and connectivity services. Canon’s PowerShot G1 X Mark II, PowerShot N100, Selphy CP910 Compact Photo Printer and Canon Image Gateway were the star highlights of the chill-out event.

At the PowerShot G1 X Mark II display area, the media tested the digital compact camera’s advanced features by recording videos or capturing stills of their favourite Venetian harlequin and mime artist who were there to add to the ‘colourful’ ambience of the event. The outcome? DSLR-like quality pictures of the entertainers in action with excellent Bokeh function, even in low light condition – features that professionals and tech-savvy users will certainly appreciate.

At the second display area was the PowerShot N100 where the media had fun striking up quirky and creative poses with a varied and fun selection of props. Upon deciding on their ‘look’, the media captured these poses with the PowerShot N100’s Dual Capture feature and also personalised their shots with the camera’s Creative Filters. Tapping on its Wi-Fi connectivity, they were then able to send their photographs directly from the camera to the Selphy CP910 photo printer. Another key feature, the Story Highlight function, left many media in awe as the camera’s unique function enables an album to be generated from the images in the camera at just the press of a button.

Over at the Selphy CP910 Compact Photo Printer area, the media had a first-hand experience of a convenient and hassle-free platform to print directly from a Canon camera wit Wi-Fi connection. Doubling up as a mobile access point, users can also print straight from their smart phones and tablets – a definite perk with today’s modern and tech savvy customers.

Many were equally captivated by the scrapbooking presentation of images printed exclusively from the Selphy CP910, further demonstrating the printer’s capability to output quality pictures that were creatively assembled into a personalised scrapbook.

Central to the chill-out activity was the theme of connectivity which was expressed through the demonstration of the Canon’s latest service, the Canon iMage Gateway (CiG), a free online photo and video-sharing service available to all Canon users across South and South East Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Commenting on the distinctive features of CiG, Mr Donny Ling, Director of Imaging Communications Products Division of Canon said, “The CIG is ideal for Canon camera users who are constantly on-the-go, be they travellers or media photographers. With CIG, it doesn’t matter where they are. With a Wi-Fi connection, they can share their quality pictures instantaneously with anyone they choose, without the need of any smart device or computer. This is what makes CiG so exciting! It is designed to promote a more in-sync photo-culture among Malaysians, allowing them to share in the happenings of each other’s lives.”

The media also had the opportunity to have a trial of other innovative Canon products launched in the first half of 2014 such as the latest EOS 1200D, EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM and EF-S10-18mm IS STM lenses; Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX II flash; and the latest PowerShot and IXUS models.

Indeed, Canon’s 2014 first half roll-out which was showcased at ‘SocialSync: Chilling Out With Canon’ meets the needs of every type of user – from professionals and seasoned photographers, to the most casual of users – in promoting interaction and enhancing connectivity between friends and family. The event culminated with a Lucky Draw of three prizes – one unit each of the PowerShot G1 X Mark II, PowerShot N100 and Selphy CP910.

All in all, ‘SocialSync: Chilling Out With Canon’ proved to be an event with a difference that left the media excited about the latest developments with Canon’s product range, the interactive product features and connectivity services. It was well summed up by Canon’s President and CEO, Mr Wataru Nishioka who urged the media to discover the excitement of photography with Canon. “See through our lens and capture those moments that will give you endless hours of appreciation and satisfaction. See how rich a photograph you can get with our cameras even in difficult lighting conditions. Share them on the Canon Image Gateway. Print them out,” he said.
