TANJONG BUNGAH, Penang (April 30, 2014) –Two years ago Intel celebrated its 40th anniversary with a cyclethon, and this year they’re at it again. In conjunction with the Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital, Intel Malaysia organized a fundraising cyclethon to aid the Needy Cancer Patients Fund.

Donations were collected by Intel employees over a month long period earlier this year and successfully raised a total of RM26,800.

“Intel has always been an integral part of Penang and has contributed to our growth in more ways than one. From creating jobs to advocating going green and promoting healthy lifestyles, there’s one thing they don’t shy away from; and that is giving back to the community’, said Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang during the cheque presentation. He also mentioned that the Penang State government will be matching Intel’s donation dollar-for-dollar.

Chris Kelly, General Manager of Malaysia Design Group (MDC), Intel Malaysia stated during the prize giving ceremony, “I’d like to thank our employees from the bottom of our hearts. Without their hard work and efforts, this event would have not been possible. Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital spends RM200,000 a year to help around 800 people in need – it’s hard to think of any cause more than worthy of our modest contribution.”

“When I lost my mother to cancer last year, I told myself that I would do all I can to fight this terrible disease. I am extremely honored to be recognized for my contributions to this fundraiser but this battle is far from over,” expressed Evelyn Teo, an employee of Intel Malaysia for the past eight years.

Ong Boon Yean, this year’s top contributor said, “I’ve been working at Intel Malaysia for a long time and the company’s outreach to the community has always impressed me. It’s not every day we get to promote healthy lifestyles, contribute to a good cause and have fun at the same time.”

Lim Bok Sim, who chairs the Intel Cyclethon committee added, “as long as there is a cause to raise money for, we will be there to support it all the way. We intend to make these cyclethons a part of our tradition and keep them going for as long as we can. Look forward to more cyclethons in the future!”

While this year’s cyclethon is over, the door to contribute to Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital remains open. If you’d like to help out the hospital in its righteous cause, head over to http://www.mountmiriam.com/ for more details.
